I wrote three novels in three years. It took a lot of time, but it wasn't work. Like an incoming tide, it was something I futilely tried to hold off before I finally relented and wrote the first page, and then the first chapter, and then the first book, and so on. It didn't take effort to write those books, it took effort not to.
