What is the CVI?

Core Values Index profile chart, showing Innovator as primary core value energy with a score of 29The CVI™ is a short but highly accurate psychometric personality assessment that shows how you naturally like to contribute. It looks at four core value energies that everyone has in different amounts.

  • Builder is about taking action and getting results.
  • Merchant is about relationships and encouragement.
  • Innovator is about understanding how things work and creating solutions.
  • Banker is about knowledge, accuracy, and careful planning.

Your report highlights which of these feel most like you so you can make everyday choices that fit how you are hardwired.

Start by reading the descriptions of your top two energies and notice where they already show up in your day. If Builder is high, begin with one task you can finish quickly to create momentum. If Merchant is high, reach out to someone who matters and move a conversation forward. If Innovator is high, grab a problem that needs a better way and sketch a simple fix. If Banker is high, tidy one process or checklist so tomorrow runs smoother.

Keep it small, pay attention to what gives you energy, and do a little more of that tomorrow.

"I'm a parent and I just took the CVI. Now what?"

Use your results to set the tone at home in a way that feels natural. Builder energy helps you make clear calls and keep the household moving. Merchant energy helps you check in, listen, and keep everyone connected. Innovator energy helps you design better routines, like a calmer morning flow. Banker energy helps you bring steadiness with plans, budgets, and calendars.

Your child may be wired differently than you, so meet them where they are.

When tension rises, take a quick reset, meaning a breath and one grounding question like what outcome matters right now or what does my child need first, so you respond as your best self.

"I'm a student and I just took the CVI. Now what?"

Let your top energies shape how you study and team up with others. Builders do well with short work sprints and clear finish lines. Merchants learn best by talking things through and studying with a partner. Innovators like to treat assignments as puzzles and need focus time to think. Bankers thrive with organized notes, past exams, and step by step plans. Share your results with an advisor or mentor and ask which classes, clubs, or internships will let your strengths show.

Notice which habits make school feel easier, then set up your next week to include more of those.

"I'm a working professional and I just took the CVI. Now what?"

Match your calendar to your strengths and nudge your time toward the work that fits you best.

Builders feel most alive when they own outcomes and make clear progress. Merchants add the most value when they are with clients or teammates building trust. Innovators shine when they fix bottlenecks and design smoother processes. Bankers protect results with accuracy, reporting, and risk checks. If part of your week drains you, see if you can trade a slice of it with someone who loves that kind of work, then watch what improves for both of you.

"I'm a business leader and I just took the CVI. Now what?"

Share your profile, invite your team to share theirs, and design roles that let people use their strengths on purpose.

PRO TIP: Get everyone on your team to take the CVI.

Before big decisions, walk through four simple lenses that mirror the energies. Ask what result we need, who needs to be on the same page, what solution will actually work, and what facts or risks matter. Praise by naming the value you saw, like decisive action, real alignment, a smart fix, or reliable analysis. If you notice the overuse of a strength, which is the too much version sometimes called the shadow, help the person dial it back so the strength stays helpful.

"I'm in a relationship and I just took the CVI. Now what?"

Swap results with your partner and talk about everyday moments where your strengths show up. Builders often show love by doing and fixing. Merchants show love by listening and encouraging. Innovators show love by offering a practical way forward. Bankers show love by keeping plans and details steady.

In tough moments, start by giving each other what you need most, whether that is a clear goal, a chance to reconnect, a workable plan, or the key facts. Decide together and follow through so both styles feel respected.

"My co-worker just took the CVI. Now what?"

Ask how they like to contribute and tune your requests so they can do their best work. With a Builder, be clear about the goal and what done looks like. With a Merchant, explain who is affected and why it matters. With an Innovator, define the problem and constraints so they can design a path. With a Banker, share the data, timing, and reasons behind the ask. Pair people whose strengths complement each other and after delivery, review the outcome through all four lenses so everyone sees the full picture.

"I'm looking for a job and I just took the CVI. Now what?"

Turn your results into a plain sentence that explains the value you bring, then use that sentence in your resume and interviews.

A Builder might say they take ownership and drive progress. A Merchant might say they build trust and grow relationships. An Innovator might say they solve complex problems with practical solutions. A Banker might say they protect results with accurate analysis and solid systems. Read job posts through that lens and look for verbs that match your style. Share short stories that show your strengths in action and explain how you partner with others who bring the pieces you do not.

"I don't really like my job, so I took the CVI. Now what?"

Use your report to pinpoint what is off, then try a small redesign before making a big move. Maybe your role asks for constant people time and you are a natural Banker, or it demands nonstop quick calls and you are an Innovator who needs a bit of thinking room. Pick one change that brings the work closer to your strengths, like trading a few tasks with a teammate or fixing a process that wastes time.

Pay attention to your energy over two weeks. If the fit is still not there, let your top energies guide your search for something better aligned.

"I'm thinking about changing careers, so I took the CVI. Now what?"

Let your strongest energies point to your durable edge, the kind of contribution that travels with you to any industry. Builders often thrive in roles where ownership and speed matter. Merchants fit well in partnerships, community, or client growth. Innovators do well in product, operations, or process improvement. Bankers excel in analysis, quality, or compliance. Test a few options with a short project, a shadow day, or a contract, then tell a clear story that connects your past wins to the problems you want to solve next.

"I have a well-rounded CVI profile. How do these questions and answers apply to me?"

Think of your CVI profile like having four good gears. The move is to pick one gear to start with instead of trying to run them all at once.

Ask yourself what matters most right now, finishing the thing, getting people on the same page, finding a smart fix, or making sure the facts are solid. Lead with that, then layer in the other angles so you stay focused. Watch for the only real trap with a well-rounded profile, which is saying yes to everything. Give yourself simple guardrails like time limits and clean handoffs so your range stays a superpower.

Identify Your Best Self

The CVI is not about turning you into someone else. It helps you see your natural strengths, use them on purpose, and partner for the rest.

Start small, notice what gives you energy, and keep leaning in that direction. That is how a simple assessment turns into better days at home, at school, and at work.
