You may have heard of the CVI™ from a friend or co-worker, or maybe you read something about it online.

What is the CVI?

CVI stands for Core Values Index™. It is a psychometric assessment that measures your innate, unchanging nature. It describes who you are and how you are hardwired, or as I like to say...

The CVI represents your personality's DNA.

Understanding how we are hardwired helps define what makes us happy. Aligning our unchanging hardwired nature with what we do is the path to happiness in our role.

The Core Values Index assessment is an online test that takes about 8 minutes to complete. It's easy; all you do is choose two words out of several groups of four. Anyone can take it, even down to ages 13 or 14.

Unlike other psychometric assessments like Myers-Briggs, IDAK, or The DiSC, the CVI takes just minutes, not hours, and has a repeat reliability score above 97%.

That means if you take the CVI at the age of 18 and again at the age of 80, your scores will be within 3% of each other. No other psychometric assessment on the market today even comes close.

When you take the CVI, your score is made up of four values between 0 and 36 points, with the total coming to exactly 72.

Your ratio of points across those four scores represent your CVI profile.

The four points — or energies — of the CVI represent how much power, love, wisdom, and knowledge you value within your personality.

The CVI describes where you find the greatest happiness.

The CVI isn't about how much you know, however. It's about where you find the greatest happiness. Next, I'll explain how these four energies work together to describe the innate, unchanging nature of your CVI profile.

What does the CVI look like? How does it work?

Are you the kind of person that takes charge of every situation, boldly acting without hesitation?

You probably have a lot of power energy in your CVI profile, or what we call Builders.

Maybe you are the social glue that binds your friends or co-workers together, the kind of person that seems to get along with everyone and relishes social connections?

You are driven by love — connectedness and relationships — what we call Merchant energy.

Maybe you are the kind of person that loves to solve problems and enjoys analyzing challenges and seeking the best way to achieve a task?

We call that wisdom or Innovator energy.

And finally, maybe you are someone who loves acquiring and organizing information and sharing that information with others.

We call that knowledge or Banker energy.

Everyone has a particular combination of these energies within their personality. The relative amount of these energies define your innate, unchanging nature.

Here's an example. I am an Innovator/Banker.

My Innovator score is 27 and my Banker score is 17. My Builder score is 15 and my Merchant score is 13. All four scores add up to exactly 72.

Each of the four scores can be between 0 and 36, but all four will total exactly 72. Everyone's full CVI profile equals 72 points. This means if someone has a really high score in one quadrant, one of their other quadrants will probably be rather low.

What do these numbers mean? Since I'm a 27 Innovator, I spend the vast majority of my time in my Innovator's problem-solving mind set.

I really like solving problems, so doing those kind of activities are where I'm the happiest.

My secondary score of Banker is 17, which means I also like to gather, organize, and share knowledge and information, although to a lesser extent than I enjoy solving problems.

Here are some examples of CVI profiles. Perhaps you know people with similar personalities.

Merchant/Builders often rise to positions of leadership, such as CEOs of major corporations or as elected officials. Their Merchant energy motivates them to establish a network of social, business or political connections, while their Builder energy pushes them to take strong leadership and get things done.

Innovator/Merchants are often highly creative problem solvers that love building relationships with others. They love teamwork and make great teachers. They also thrive in environments with lots of change and new challenges. This means they can become bored doing the same thing day after day.

Banker/Builders are pragmatic people who measure results and work hard. They focus on facts, keep things organized, and are great at avoiding risks. They'd excel at organizing a Space Shuttle launch, for example.

There are twelve different combinations of primary and secondary Core Value energies, but when you take the combined values of all four scores, there are many billions of unique combinations of CVI profiles.

Taking the CVI gives you unprecedented insight into your own personality.

With that knowledge, you will understand who you are and how you are hardwired.

The Core Values Index assessment is easy to take and has a higher repeat reliability than any other psychometric assessment on the market today.

You might even discover so much about your own happiness that you spontaneously pose for a ridiculous stock photo.
