For those who have taken the Core Values Index psychometric assessment (CVI) or are just curious about it, here are the top three things you need to know about your profile.
3. There are four core values but over 1.8 million combinations.
"What's your sign?" Have you ever wondered how the personalities of 7+ billion people can be narrowed down to just twelve astrological signs? This means that for each of the twelve, there are over 580 million people that all supposedly share the same character, disposition, and temperament.
The Core Values Index psychometric assessment has just four main personality types. How could it possible be more accurate at describing people than the signs of the zodiac?
The CVI is much more than just the four core value energies.
When you take the CVI, you receive a set of scores spread amongst four core value energies. They are called Builder (power and action), Merchant (love and intuitive connections), Innovator (wisdom and problem solving), and Banker (knowledge and justice). Your scores for each of these core value energies will range between 0 and 36, with the total of all four equalling exactly 72.
Your particular combination of all four scores makes your profile similar to only 3,735 other people on the entire planet.
Odds are you won't run into someone else with your exact same profile at the local coffee shop. If you factor in your education, background and experiences, you are truly unique.
2. The CVI isn't just for hiring.
Although most people are introduced to psychometric assessments like Myers-Briggs, The DiSC, and Strengths Finders during the hiring process, the Core Values Index offers individuals a lot more than just hiring fit.
Students take the CVI as part of their college and career planning effort. There is simply no better way to find the right career track for a high school student than by learning about their strengths and emotional hardwiring through a psychometric assessment.
Couples use their CVI profiles to better understand themselves and each other. Have you ever wondered if the adage, "Opposites attract," is true? It can be at first but it seldom leads to long-term compatibility. Knowing your partner's CVI profile leads to greater understanding of each other and all that goes with it.
1. Your scores matter.
There are over 1.8 million combinations of Core Values Index scores. Knowing that each score can range between 0 and 36, here are some examples that describe how the scores matter.
Any score below 12 is rarely if ever accessed. If you have a CVI profile with a Banker score of 11, it's very rare for you to access your Banker energies (love of knowledge and sense of justice). Engaging in Banker-like activities will seem foreign and maybe even uncomfortable for you. Communicating with people that have high Banker scores will present some challenges.
Conversely, those with scores in core value energies 25 or above are considered 'profound.' If you have a Merchant score of 27, for example, you'd spend the vast majority of your time seeing the world and interacting with it through a Merchant's lens.
Although the scores for each of your core value energies range from 0 to 36, they don't necessarily represent a linear progression of how much each of those energies shapes your personality. As we mentioned, any score below 12 is functionally non-existent within you.
Your combination of CVI scores doesn't just influence how you think and see the world, it also shapes how you interact with others.
If two Builder/Merchants are in a meeting together, the relative scores between these two individuals will determine who dominates the conversation. Let's say Sherrill has a CVI profile of 28-Builder, 23-Merchant, 12-Innovator, 9-Banker. Her co-worker, Larry, has a CVI profile of 25-Builder, 23-Merchant, 13-Innovator, 11-Banker.
Sherrill will likely lead the conversation and Larry will instinctively defer to her higher Builder energy. This occurs even though both Sherrill and Larry would describe themselves as Builder/Merchants.
If someone with a high Banker score joined the conversation, Sherrill and Larry would likely find them to be somewhat long-winded and even a bit tedious. They would impatiently seek to cut the conversation short and move on to actually getting things done (from their perspective).
The Banker, on the other hand, would wonder why Sherrill and Larry weren't interested in the 18-page white paper they'd written, complete with appendixes and charts.
