Be the Best You

Will you succeed in life if you constantly strive to be like someone else? Probably not. But there's still one person you must compete against to 'win'. Do you know who that is?
You are unique. Your combination of emotional hardwiring and life experiences is one-of-a-kind. No one else can ever be better at being you than you can.
Okay, enough with the platitudes. Frame them and put them on your living room wall if you want. If they inspire you, great. But we need to move on to things that can actually improve your life.
Here's something the influencers on social media won't tell you: The secret to success is a lie.
The secret to YOUR success is a truth as reliable as gravity. Find your strengths and find the role where your strengths are key.
That's it. That's the secret, the secret to your success. Be the best you that you can be.
But first, know thyself.
Don't waste the precious years of your life pursuing someone else's dream.
Stop being a fish trying to learn how to climb a tree. Even if you succeed, when people say, "Wow, that's impressive," they'll also be muttering under their breath, "I've seen a drunken monkey do it better."
Know your strengths. How are you emotionally hardwired? Are you a quiet and reserved person struggling to be a more outgoing leader-type because some square-jawed influencer said to you — and the other 100,000 people watching their TED talk — there's a lion inside of you waiting to come out?
Who are you?
- If you are analytical and love to collect and collate data and knowledge, find the role where that is most valued.
- If you are outgoing and love to connect with others, getting them all working toward a common goal, find the role where the group needs that kind of motivated energy.
- If you are a natural-born problem-solver, always seeking wise answers to the challenges and opportunities for smart solutions everywhere you look, find the role where innovation is needed and most highly valued.
- If you are the type who instinctively and confidently takes charge of every situation, always getting things done with great self-faith that you will always know what to do, find the role where that kind of get-it-done leadership is most needed.
What shaped peg are you?
There are holes shaped like squares, triangles, circles and stars. What shape of peg are you?
Do you try on clothes at the store without looking at the size first? Probably not. Then why are you pursuing an almost random series of jobs without first assessing your emotional hardwiring?
First, know thyself. Take the time (8 minutes, seriously, that's all it takes) to complete a reliable and accurate psychometric assessment — what most people call a personality test — like the Core Values Index™. Get to know how you are hardwired and learn what makes you tick and why.
The CVI may confirm what you already suspect about yourself. If you're an analytical type, or creative, or the first to lead from the front, or love to solve problems, you probably have an inkling that this is true.
You might be a balanced blend of two or more of these personality types, or even all four.
No matter what, you need to know more about how you are hardwired. You need to stop guessing.
The CVI may reveal things about yourself that you had no idea were there, but once you read your personality report, you'll say, "Wow, I never knew that about myself, but it makes perfect sense!"
The CVI will explain the "why" behind your default behaviors. It will describe why you react to stress and conflict the way you do, or why you react to certain personality types positively or negatively or even in a "What the hell are they talking about?" state of confusion.
Ultimately, your goal is to be the best you that you can be and the first step you should take is to understand who you are and how you are hardwired.
Take the CVI and learn the details and why's and how's of your personality's DNA.
Stop going through life as if it's one big trial-and-error effort, hoping to randomly land in a role or position in life that truly suits you. How many years do you have to rely on that much chance?
Or make the smart 8-minute move and take an easy yet accurate personality test like the Core Values Index and get reliable answers right away.
Be the best you with the CVI. It's the best first step you'll ever take — guaranteed.
