Understanding Your Conflict Resolution Strategy

Find Your Perfect Career - Learn how to match your personality to the ideal job or career for you-risk free-$49.95

The Core Values Index assessment is more than a set of numerical scores describing your personality at a high level. Much more. When people take the full CVI and read their report, they are consistently amazed at how accurately it describes many aspects of their personality, much of which they intuitively knew but had never been able to fully identify and put into words.

"How does it know me so well?" is a common refrain.

The full CVI report provides a lot more than just information. It gives you actionable insight that enables you to not only understand why you see the world the way you do, it also helps you understand how you interact with others based on their CVI profile.

"The deepest fear of every person is that I am really the opposite of my dominant core value." — Lynn Ellsworth Taylor

One of the most useful insights provided by the full CVI report is how your particular core values profile handles conflict, stress, and above all, the fear that you are the opposite of your dominant or primary core value. We call it Conflict Resolution Strategies and it provides powerful information that can change your personal and professional life in a profound way.

Interrogators and Intimidators

As Lynn Taylor, the creator of the Core Values Index, has stated, everyone's greatest fear is that they are the opposite of their primary core value. This fear can arrise in various circumstances. For example, if a Builder is interacting with someone who just doesn't seem to understand that they represent powerful energy, this fear of not being their true self can kick in. An Innovator who feels the person they are engaging with sees them as foolish or fails to perceive that they are wise can do the same.

These moments of underlying fear that we aren't our true selves can trigger our conflict resolution strategy.

Each core value has a particular way of dealing with this fear. Everyone feels challenged or stressed at times and the way we react to these situations depends entirely on our core values profile.

  • Builders represent the power in the room, and their negative conflict resolution strategy of intimidation goes along with that.
  • Innovators are the curious and wise ones, always seeking to solve the mysteries and problems that come into their lives. When they perceive their wisdom is ineffective or unappreciated, they become master interrogators, asking leading questions of those who challenge them in order to seem wise once again.
  • Merchants bring social love and connection to those they meet, and they turn to what they know when challenged in a similar manner. They seek to emotionally motivate or even manipulate others in the group to follow their point of view and build consensus that they are right and those who challenged them are wrong.
  • Bankers, the collectors of knowledge, adopt a position of aloof judgment when they fear they are no longer strong in their primary core energy. They can close off emotionally and revert to cold, intellectual disengagement toward those who affronted them. They withhold their valuable information from those they feel are unworthy of it.

Constructive Responses

Understanding how you react to situations that make you fear you are no longer operating in your primary core value energy is important. When you read your full Core Values Index report, you will receive specific notes and insights about your way of reacting to this fear, and you will be given guidance helping you recognize these reactions and address them in appropriate, constructive and effective ways.

It's free to take the CVI but you only get a quadrant graph showing your relative allocation between the four core values. Purchasing a full CVI not only gives you your specific scores, you also get a 17-page report detailing the specifics of your profile, including powerful insights about your conflict resolution strategy. It also provides helpful tips and guidance to help you successfully interact with other core value profiles.

Not only do you get this detailed report about your specific profile, you get a PDF copy (196 pages) of The Core Values Handbook by Lynn Ellsworth Taylor, the creator of the Core Values Index. This is especially useful for those who wish to fully understand their own innate, unchanging nature as well as the personality DNA of others in their professional and personal life.
