Both individuals and employers use the Core Values Index psychometric assessment. It is used in hiring and job searches, relationships, career and education planning, and by those who want to better understand themselves and others.
To begin, let's answer the most important question of them all:
Q: What is the Core Values Index assessment?
A: The CVI is a psychometric assessment that identifies and defines the fundamental characteristics of an individual's personality. The CVI is taken online (at https://erep.com/core-values-index/) and usually only requires about 8 minutes to complete. The results are easy to digest and you don't need any training to understand them.
We frequently get asked the following question regarding the difference between personality tests and psychometric assessments.
Q: Is the Core Values Index a personality test?
A: The CVI is a psychometric assessment that analyzes and defines your personality, so in a sense it could be called a personality test. After completing the CVI, you receive a 17-page report customized specifically for you with detailed yet easy to understand results that go way beyond a mere personality test.
The CVI is comparable in scope and depth to Myers-Briggs MBTI, but the CVI's results are much easier to understand. The CVI is also far more reliable, with 97.7% repeat reliability; MBTI barely cracks 70%.
Repeat reliability is a measure of how consistent an assessment's results are. If you take the CVI at age 20 and again at age 40, your results will be at least 97.7% similar. Repeat reliability is one of the best ways to gauge and measure the value and accuracy of a psychometric assessment.
Free vs. Full CVI
Next, we address a common question regarding the differences between the free CVI and the full CVI.
Q: Are the free CVI and full CVI different assessments?
A: No. Whether you take the free or full CVI, the assessment is the same, only the amount of information provided afterward is different. (You don't get your score values or a full report with the free CVI, for example.)
Q: If I take the free CVI now, can I upgrade it later?
A: Yes. If you take the free CVI, you can always upgrade your results to the full version later on, gaining access to your full report and your core value scores and contribution types. You only have to take the assessment once.
Using the CVI
Q: I get numerical scores with the full CVI. Why do the numbers matter?
A: Simply knowing that you are an Innovator/Merchant, for example, isn't enough. The numerical scores provided with your full CVI report lets you know the relationship and proportions of each of the four core values that is unique to you. Are you a profound Innovator? Are your Banker and Builder energies in balance? Do you ever access your Merchant energy? Your scores will tell you.
Your CVI scores will be allocated across the four core value types: Builder, Merchant, Innovator, and Banker. These types represent power, love, wisdom and knowledge respectively. For each of those four, your score will be a value between 0 and 36, with the sum of all four being exactly 72.
Scores for a core value energy below 12 indicate you rarely if ever spend any time within that energy. Scores above 25 are considered profound and indicate you spend the vast majority of your time in that energy. If your CVI scores were 18, 18, 18, and 18 (a rare combination) you would have a perfectly balanced CVI profile.
Q: I'm an individual that wants to learn more about myself. How can the Core Values Index help me?
A: The most fundamental benefit of taking the CVI is it helps define and clarify what makes you happy. This matters whether you are applying for a job or if you are just an individual that wants to know more about yourself.
The CVI is not an aptitude test. It doesn't define what you'll be good at, at least not directly. Instead, it defines the kind of activities and environments where you will find the greatest satisfaction. If you are working or living in a space that is aligned with how you are hardwired, you will feel fulfilled and happy, and as a result you will see greater success.
The CVI defines your personality's DNA. Once you know that, you will be well on your way toward finding your happy place.
The CVI and Jobs
One of the largest groups of people that take the CVI are job seekers. These folks are most commonly responding to a job ad posted by an employer that uses CVI results to pre-screen candidates.
Q: Do I need to take the CVI in order to search for a job on eRep.com?
A: Taking the CVI is not a requirement to search for jobs on eRep.com, although we encourage everyone looking for a job to take the CVI as it provides great insight into the kind of jobs where you would thrive.
It is also to your advantage to take the CVI as most employers that advertise job listings through eRep.com will require applicants to take the CVI as part of their screening process (for free). This is a good thing, as it accurately and efficiently matches candidates to the position.
Employers rely on Core Values Index services from eRep quite extensively during the hiring process. The CVI helps them screen and hire candidates that are hardwired for the role. eRep's Talent Acquisition and Talent Management services are not only easy to use, they are extremely powerful. We call it accurate hiring.
Q: Are eRep employer services integrated with the CVI?
A: Yes. eRep offers several powerful talent acquisition and talent management services like Top Performer Profiles™, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), and Performance Fuel, among others. All of these services integrate with employee and candidate CVIs throughout the entire system.
