Position Description

 

Position:        Young Parent Educator - Home Based & Community 

Location:        717 N. Killingsworth Court, Portland, OR 

Benefits:          Full benefits package 

Hours:              Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm, plus evenings and weekends as 
required  

Reports to:      Director of Youth Services 

Salary:              $42,928- $53,660 annually

Position Summary:  The Young Parent Educator will ensure objectives and deliverables are met according to contract and grant agreements, including but not limited to providing home visits, family support services, parenting skills and child development education to young parents (18 to 25) living in  or near the poverty threshold in Portland, Oregon.  Core responsibilities include; youth and young adult parenting and child abuse prevention curriculum, increasing parent/family involvement in activities, community outreach, and participant recruitment. You will work closely with Youth Services Department staff to maintain open and clear communications, to implement and track data collection, and to ensure grant reports and proposals are prepared on time and on budget.

This position will be responsible for supporting a caseload of 33 young parents and their families (16 receiving home based parenting support and 17 receiving class based parenting support). The Young Parent Coordinator will work closely with staff across all four Rosemary Anderson High School (RAHS) school sites, the Work Opportunities Training (WOT) office, The Youth Services Department and with other POIC+RAHS staff to maintain open and clear communications, to implement and track data collection, and to ensure grant reports and proposals are prepared on time and on budget. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities & Duties: 

-         Conduct weekly Home Visits for Program Participants

-         Conduct two 16 week Community Parenting Sessions for Young Parents

-         Recruit Young Parent participants

-         Collect, analyze, and report on data including but not limited to event attendance, and resources services needed, program participation, demographics.

-         Monitor grant requirements to make sure all contracted goals are met

-         Adhere to organization-s equity position

-         Track and report data and statistics to funders as outlined in program grants

-         Complete agency weekly, monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports

-         Weigh in on strategic plans for the department that relates to the future of young parent/family involvement programming and community engagement

-         Assist Director by ensuring budgetary compliance and by submitting any required documents or reports on time and in completion

-         Collaborate on execution of programs for department

-         Other duties as assigned

-         Ensure objectives and deliverables are met according to contract and grant agreements 

-         Work with Program team to ensure duties collaborative work to move mission and service delivery forward

-         Respond to all crises and risk incidents within the required time frames per Portland OIC policies.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills:

-         A passion for POIC + RAHS mission and serving youth and families; particular interest to impact the needs of African American youth and families.

-         Drive and determination for innovative program development, implementation, and evaluation.

-         Demonstrated progression in program and contract management.

-         Dynamic leadership, innovation, and team-building skills.

-         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and community members

-         Excellent organizational, time management, and reporting skills to manage multiple projects, set priorities, collaborate with stakeholders, and meet deadlines

-         Experience in creating and maintaining organizational systems for tracking program information

-         Responsible and professional conduct that serves as role model to all stakeholders

-         Knowledge of resource development and long-range planning

-         Proven persuasive communication skills; excellent reading, writing, editing and research abilities; excellent verbal communication skills

-         Excellent writing skills and technical skills.

-         Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

 

Experience & Education Requirements:

-         Minimum 3+ years program and case management experience

-         Minimum 3+ years managing programs

-         Prior grant reporting experience required

-         Experience working with young adults and families

-         Experience recruiting and maintaining program participants

-         Experience working with communities of color, in particular African American women

-         Bachelor-s degree required or equivalent plus 5 years demonstrated experience

Additional Requirements

-         Successful completion of initial and on-going employment screens, including, but not limited to criminal background, sex offender, drug, abuse and neglect and vehicle record as required

-         Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and automobile insurance meeting minimum requirements as defined by the organization

-         All POIC+RAHS staff is required to participate in ongoing training and professional development related to our organizational expectations centered on personal growth, leadership, and accountability

Established in 1968 as a community-based organization, Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. (POIC) has been providing culturally relevant adult workforce training and placement to adults, with an emphasis on people of color. In 1983, Rosemary Anderson High School (RAHS) was founded. Today, POIC+RAHS partners with government agencies, local businesses, and other community-based organizations to provide:
