Description

Local construction company Lovett, Inc. has been servicing the Greater Portland Metro area for more than 25 years, providing a wide range of services from vac truck services to plumbing to excavation and directional drilling.

Lovett, Inc. is currently seeking an accomplished and strategic Director of Finance & Accounting to oversee and lead the financial operations of their growing organization. This key leadership role is responsible for all aspects of accounting and finance, including Work in Progress (WIP) reporting, monthly close, and timely financial reporting.

The Director will manage and mentor an accounting team of four (4), fostering professional development and ensuring a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement while embodying Lovett's Core Values (Safety, Opportunity, Kindness, Growth & Having Fun). Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all finance and accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, monthly & annual budgets, and general ledger management.
  • Manage the monthly Work in Progress (WIP) reporting process, ensuring accurancy and timeliness.
  • Direct and execute the month-end close process, producing accurate financial statements and reports by the ninth (9) business day of each month.
  • Provide leadership with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Develop and enforce financial policies, internal controls, and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Partner with business unit managers and operations leaders to ensure accurate job cost and accounting and financial alignment with project performance.
  • Mentor, coach, and supervise a team of four (4) accounting professionals, supporting growth and skill development.
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, and analysis to support company goals.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, systems, and reporting tools.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive construction accounting/finance experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role, managing accounting teams.
  • Proven expertise in construction accounting practices, including WIP reporting and job cost accounting, GAAP.
  • Strong background in monthly close and financial statement preparation.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoriing, and people-development skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (experience with construction ERP systems preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
