Description

Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center + Rosemary Anderson High School (POIC + RAHS) is a minority-led nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization providing the highest quality services in education, mentoring, family outreach, employment training, and placement. This position is responsible for all parts of meal preparation for between 100-500 meals daily (breakfast and lunch) for our POIC+RAHS School Lunch program that takes place across 5 different sites.


Responsibilities

      • Meal preparation, cooking, and cleanup for 100-500 school lunches
      • Maintains safety and health guidelines
      • Packaging and Delivery of meals
      • Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc.
      • Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food, etc.
      • Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients
      • Bake, grill, steam, and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods
      • Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
      • Prepare large quantities of food from established recipes and menus
      • Store prepared food
      • Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh
      • Present, garnish, and arrange final dishes for packaging and delivery
      • Properly portion meals to be served at each campus based on current enrollment numbers
      • Ensure food preparation and handling guidelines are observed to prevent foodborne illness
      • Cleaning their workspace throughout the day to follow health and safety guidelines
      • Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes
      • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash, etc. Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
      • Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
      • Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
      • Using all safety precautions and proper techniques to utilize kitchen appliances and tools
      • Loading, transporting, and delivering breakfasts and lunches to campuses in a safe, timely manner
      • Reviewing orders before and after delivery to ensure that orders are complete and appropriate quantities are delivered to each campus
      • Assisting with loading and unloading items from vehicles as well as delivery of meals to 5 locations
      • Providing excellent customer service and answering questions about components of each meal
      • Adhering to assigned routes and following time schedules
      • Abiding by all transportation laws and maintaining a safe driving record
      • Preparing reports and other documents relating to deliveries and inventory
      • A team player with good communication skills
      • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

      • Required 1 year working in a professional kitchen. 
      • High school diploma or equivalent experience. 
      • A valid driver-s license issued by the state of Oregon and a clean driving record.
