Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends as assigned (Parent Teacher Conferences, etc.)

Position Summary:  Rosemary Anderson H.S. is
seeking a full-time Math Teacher for our East Campus. All teaching positions
include classroom instruction, curriculum development and program growth

is a multi-faceted agency that provides wide-ranging services meant to promote
stronger attachments between disenfranchised youth, their families and the
wider community. POIC+RAHS supports several school based programs for students
in grades 9 -12: located throughout the Portland Metro area. Each accredited
school site serves less than 200 students, and we serve approximately 600 youth
across all campuses, hailing from Portland Public Schools and East County
schools. All programs include paths to earning a high school diploma and/or a
We continue to mentor and support our graduates until they reach the age
of stable maturity at age 25 and have a range of support services aimed at
supporting students, their families and the broader Portland-Metro Area.


Essential Functions:  

-        Instruction

o   Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.

o   Establish shared expectations with students regarding behaviors, norms and habits in the classroom.

o   Plan and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.

-        Program Development

o   Work across all school sites to collaboratively develop a unique, engaging and rigorous curriculum.

o   Develop and design program features which will inspire students to develop new understandings about the interconnectedness between subject areas.

o   Future educational leadership opportunities available.

-        Curriculum Development

o   Design and adapt curriculum to meet the diverse needs of our student population.

o   Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.

o   Develop auxiliary curriculum by working collaboratively with other teachers from across all school campuses.

-        Communication & Collaboration

o   Confer with parents, guardians, caring adults as well as school community stakeholders regarding student progress and aid in the planning specific interventions.

o   Build a school culture that reflects POIC+RAHS values of respect, open communication, professionalism and accountability.

-        Student Support & Supervision

o   In addition to teaching, each teacher plays the role of an advisor to a group of 15 students, helping to support individual student social and emotional growth and organizational skills.

o   Foster a classroom environment conducive to learning.

-        Maintain Student Records

o   Evaluate student academic & social progress.

o   Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by laws.

o   Monitor the progress of individual students using school database system (Synergy).

-        Additional Duties

o   Other duties as assigned



-        Education/Training

o   Bachelor-s degree in Education or related subjects

o   Master-s degree in teaching preferred

o   Valid Oregon Secondary Teaching License with Math Endorsement

o   Experience working with high school youth in a school or community- based organization setting

o   Familiarity with trauma-informed practice and strength-based approaches to working with participants preferred

-        Certification/Credentials

o   Highly Qualified teachers preferred

o   Non-certified teachers may be considered with relevant and/or exceptional experience

-         Skills

o   A passion for POIC+RAHS mission and serving culturally-diverse youth and their families

o   Ability to model appropriate professional behavior and maintain professional boundaries

o   Proficiency in Microsoft Office, professional email communication, internet research and database software

o   Ability to develop unique intervention strategies to engage and inspire students

o   Ability to organize time efficiently and effectively

o   Ability to reach out to appropriate stakeholders to gain support

o   Ability to reach out for support when working in stressful conditions

o   Ability to work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds

o   Exceptional verbal communication skills

o   Fluency and ability to communicate effectively in Spanish in addition to English is preferred


Additional Requirements:

o   Successful completion of initial and on-going employment screens, including, but not limited to criminal background, sex offender, drug, abuse and neglect and vehicle record as required

o   Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and automobile insurance meeting minimum requirements as defined by the organization

o   All POIC+RAHS staff is required to participate in ongoing training and professional development related to our organizational expectations centered on personal growth, leadership, and accountability





Established in 1968 as a community-based organization, Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. (POIC) has been providing culturally relevant adult workforce training and placement to adults, with an emphasis on people of color. In 1983, Rosemary Anderson High School (RAHS) was founded. Today, POIC+RAHS partners with government agencies, local businesses, and other community-based organizations to provide:


1.       Open-door, accredited high school diploma and GED programming

2.       Best practice peer, adult, and gang-impacted youth mentoring programs 

3.       Evidence-based young parent education and case management 

4.       Leadership development and training opportunities

5.       College and career exploration, career coaching, internship opportunities, and job placement

6.       Youth and gang violence intervention and prevention services
