The Reactions of Four Psychometric Profiles

Find the Best Job For You - Get your Personalized Career Guide tailored to match your personality, now included with the Core Values Index, just $49.95

We all react to situations differently. The same event can occur to different people and they will each have a unique response. Even their memories of the event will differ, sometimes by a little, sometimes by a lot.

Each of us sees the world through the lens of our individual psychometric profile. An analytical and logical person will perceive something according to how they are hardwired, just as a creative type will see it in their own way.

How are you hardwired? What is your personality's DNA?

For those who haven't yet taken a psychometric assessment (we suggest the Core Values Index, or 'CVI'), this article will provide a little thought experiment. We will describe various situations and include descriptions of how people might react based on their primary core value energy.

As you read these descriptions, think about how you would react. See if you can guess what your primary core value energy might be (hint: you can take the CVI and read your full report to find out). We will use the parlance of CVI core value energies, referred to as Builder (power and action), Merchant (emotional connections and intuition), Innovator (problem solving and wisdom), and Banker (knowledge and justice).

Here we go!

Scenario 1:

You are asked to give a presentation about a subject you know little about.

Builder: "I can do this! I don't know much about the topic, but that doesn't matter. I will be able to get the audience enthused and engaged no matter what."

Merchant: "This will be a great opportunity to meet new people. I don't need to prepare; knowing the topic is enough to get started."

Innovator: "Although I don't know much about the topic, I'm up for the challenge because I will likely learn as much as I teach, especially during the Q&A portion of the talk."

Banker: "I hope I have enough time to research the topic so that I can gather as much information as possible. Will I be allowed to use slides?"

After reading about this scenario, which reaction reflects your personality the closest?

Here's the next one:

Scenario 2:

You are asked to assemble a team of co-workers to collaboratively complete a short-term project.

Builder: "As long as I have sole authority to choose who is on the team, and that I get to lead the group, I'm confident the project will be a huge success."

Merchant: "Teamwork will be the key to our success. I don't need to see candidate bios because I am confident I can intuitively pick the right people for the team."

Innovator: "It will be a fun challenge to pick the perfect blend of people for the team, choosing those with the right amount of skills and experiences to find the best solution."

Banker: "Prior to choosing team members, I will review their resumes and work histories. This data will indicate who is appropriate for the team and who is not."

Which of these four primary core value energies are resonating with you the most?

Here's the last one:

Scenario 3:

A co-worker has spread rumors that you are not fit for your role. You find yourself alone in a room with that individual.

Builder: "How dare you make claims about me that aren't true! You'd better stop or I will make sure you regret it."

Merchant: "It surprises me that you would make such claims when a lot of people already feel that you are actually the incompetent one. I think you know this, and are spreading rumors about me to compensate for your own failings."

Innovator: "What are you trying to gain by spreading rumors? What is your claim based upon? I doubt you can give specific examples where I have shown incompetence, because they don't exist. You don't have proof."

Banker: "I've received two promotions in the past four years, and am the highest paid employee amongst my peers. I've also got a lot more experience in my field than you do, so clearly your claim that I am incompetent is false."

Now that we have shown three scenarios and typical responses for each of four different psychometric profiles, think about how you would have reacted in those situations. What do you think is your primary psychometric profile? (Hint: you likely have a blend of two different energies, one primary and one secondary.)
