The way we have historically classified ourselves has been rather binary, hasn't it?

Is it possible for introverts and extroverts to get along? Can a left-brained person come up with a creative idea? Can a right-brained person methodically organize an event?

Before I took the Core Values Index psychometric assessment, I often thought of myself and others in these binary terms. I've always thought of myself as introverted, left-brained, logical and organized, as well as a distinctly non-creative person. (I'm actually very creative, but in an organized way.)

These self-perceptions and perceptions of others are inaccurate in their scope, however. Until I took the CVI and began to learn what the different core value energies meant, I just assumed people's personalities, including my own, had to fit neatly into black and white categories.

Oh, was I wrong.

Although there are only four core value energies referenced in the CVI psychometric assessment ("Builder", "Banker", "Merchant" and "Innovator"), we are not pigeonholed into these four types. Rather, they represent different types of personality characteristics that in combination describe us as individuals.

Instead, think of your CVI profile as a measurement of how much of these different core value energies you have within you. You can have between 0 and 36 points of each core value energy, with your total score equalling exactly 72. This means there are millions of different combinations.

For example, I am a 27-Innovator, 17-Banker, 15-Builder, and 13-Merchant.

If you are unfamiliar with the four core value energies, here is a very brief summary:

  • Builder energy represents power and decisiveness.
  • Banker energy represents knowledge and justice.
  • Merchant energy represents intuition and emotional connections.
  • Innovator energy represents wisdom and problem-solving.

What was black or white, introverted or extroverted, left- or right-brained, is actually a very diverse and wondrous spectrum of individual personality traits. Everyone has a specific ratio of these energies within them.

Although there is a large but finite number of CVI profile score combinations, you and me and everyone else in our lives have combinations of psychometric profiles and experiences that truly makes each of us unique.

Where are you on the CVI matrix?

As you learn more about the Core Values Index, you will realize that you can be a hyper-creative and deftly social individual and still be introverted. You can be rational and methodical and logical and still have very creative solutions to challenging problems. You can be an effective and powerful leader without being a bully.

In other words, you can be right-brained but have left-brained characteristics. You can be introverted but still function quite ably in extroverted situations. You can be logical and still be creative. You can be creative and still be organized.

All of this can be measured and clarified with remarkable detail and insight within your full Core Values Index report.
