The Cost of Disengagement
The statistics may shock you. According to research by Gallup, as of 2014:
- Only 31.5% of U.S. workers are engaged in their current role
- 51% are 'not engaged'
- Worse yet, 17.5% are actively disengaged
This is more than just Bob in Accounting dreading coming into work each morning. This level of disengagement has potentially serious costs for employers. A bad hire can cost the company up to 3x that employee's annual salary in lost productivity.
We don't mean to pick on Bob. He's probably a very talented guy that eagerly wants to do good work in a role that suits him. He's just in the wrong seat.
The Good News
With all this doom and gloom about unhappy employees, what happens when the right person is put in the right seat?
The good news is that an engaged employee can be up to 200% more productive. When an employee is in a role that matches their Core Values Index profile, they are involved and enthusiastic about the work they perform, and they feel committed to their role and their workplace. They often become evangelists about their work and the team's mission.
The bottom line is an actively engaged individual brings substantially increased value to the organization.
How does an organization ensure their workers are actively engaged and enthusiastic about their role once they've made the hire?
The Core Values Index and Top Performer Profile™ is the combination that enables employers to put the right people into the right seat. Once that is done, managers and team supervisors can use the Happiness Index by eRep to measure and track employee engagement.
The Happiness Index is a revolutionary tool available on eRep.com that measures an employee's engagement, fulfillment, and happiness in five categories:
In less than 10 minutes using an easy web-based questionnaire, the employee receives a score between zero and 100% in each of the five areas of measurement. Their score is weighted to their specific CVI profile. A score of 100% represents full engagement. Results include guidance text describing what the scores mean and how to interpret them.
The Happiness Index isn't just for employees that work for companies subscribing to eRep. Individuals can take personal Happiness Index assessments, too. This is a great way to evaluate life choices such as college and career planning, and even relationships or other impactful aspects of daily life.
Using the Happiness Index to measure engagement, fulfillment and happiness provides objective and profound insight that help you find your happy place.
Searching for your own happiness starts with understanding your innate and unchanging nature through the CVI. The next step is to measure and evaluate your engagement and happiness as you progress forward at work and at home. Once you become engaged, be prepared to achieve success.
